THE success of the inaugural Ultimate Champions Futsal League has prompted the organisers to turn the event into an annual affair.

After eight months of action at 15 selected venues, the tournament, organised by Sports Planet and Revive Istonic Drink, culminated with the grand final at the Sports Planet in Ampang recently.

A total of 32 teams, including two from Singapore, took part in the grand final.

It was a carnival-like atmosphere as the participants showed excellent sportsmanship.

Sports Planet executive director Wong Horr Wai said about 1,000 teams had taken part in the competition.

“It could easily be considered the biggest futsal competition in the country.

“Based on the encouraging response, we have plans to make the event an annual affair,’’ Wong said.

Titiwangsa emerged champions after a convincing 5-0 win over Eka MCA FC in the final.

For their victory, Titiwangsa received RM15,000, medals, Revive Isotonic drinks and adidas merchandise, while Eka MCA FC settled for RM8,000.

Geraduan finished third when they edged Brabus United 7-6 and walked away with RM4,000.

Brabus United’s Romi Rosli emerged as the top scorer of the tournament with 15 goals while Titiwangsa’s Mohammad Ashaari was named as the best goalkeeper.
