A taste of Brazilian street football in Malvern

TEENAGERS can get fit and have fun learning a new sport that has its origins in Brazilian street football.

Malvern Hills District Council will be offering Futsal coaching sessions at Sport Dyson Perrins on Mondays evenings in the new year.

The course, which is open to all sixth form students, kicks off from 5-6pm on Monday, January 12 and will run for eight weeks. Sessions are being funded through the Sport England initiative Sport Unlimited, and fully qualified coaches will be on hand to introduce the rules and techniques of the sport.

David Knapper, assistant sports development officer at MHDC, said: “Futsal really is a fantastic and exciting sport. Supporting children and young people to be healthy and active is one of the council’s top four priorities for 2008-11, and by providing more untraditional sports like this we hope that the younger residents of the district will find a sport they enjoy.”
