Middletown DigestSOCCER LEAGUE TRAINING: Oceaneers Futsal League is now accepting applications for its youth academy training session. Oceaneers Futsal League has been the premier Futsal program in Rhode Island for the past five seasons. All teams representing Rhode Island at the regional championships have played in the league.
Players are invited to increase their passing and foot skills and train under the direction of regional and nationally experienced Oceaneers coaches and players. Saturday futsal training will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Sherwood Ultra Sports, 1314 Fall River Ave., Seekonk. The training, which is catered to youth ages 5 to 10, will begin Jan. 10 and run for five sessions.
Skills classes are designed to teach basic through advanced ball skills as well as improve on already existing skills in a competitively fun environment. Our instructor will focus on player’s ball control, speed, timing and coordination through specific drills that simultaneously improve the player’s agility, fitness and confidence with the ball.
Participants will be placed in groups of a 12:1 player to coach ratio to allow the maximum learning environment for each player. The cost is $75 per player, which includes futsal ball and training shirt.
For information on the program, call David Borts (401) 241-0535
or Steven Mauricio, (401) 692-7285.
Futsal is the format of small-sided soccer that is recognized and supported by FIFA and UEFA with World and European Championships. The United States Futsal Federation holds regional and national championships.
It is a five a side game, played with smaller goals and a smaller ball with a reduced bounce. Players are constantly placed in situations where they must play under pressure or in confined spaces. It places a considerable demand on the development of techniques, movement, tactical awareness and fitness.
