Jupiter FC crowned champion

Penampang: Jupiter FC emerged champion of the 1st Tan Sri Bernard Dompok Ladies Futsal Championship after beating Pluto FC 6-2 in the final played at the Penampang Futsal, here, Sunday.

Jupiter FC were the far better team when they raced to a 4-1 lead in the first half with two goals from Faithlin Juhin and Christine Julius, respectively. Both Faithlin and Christine scored hat-tricks in the final.

Pluto FC 's goals were scored by Sylvia Lukis and Floris Kinajil, in the first and second half respectively. In the third/fourth place play off, Palvor I defeated Palvor II 9-5 to finish third.

The two-day championship was organised by Alpha Group and is partly aimed at promoting the game among women and raising the standard of futsal in the State. Jupiter FC walked home with RM1,000 cash, championship trophy and a challenge trophy, followed by RM600 cash and trophy for the second placed team.

The third and fourth placed teams won RM300 and RM200 with trophies respectively.

While in the looser pool category, Ziemal took home the title as well as the RM300 prize and trophy after defeating Rascalz 3-2 in the final. The latter received RM200 while D'Reunion and DK' FC who took third and fourth place, respectively received RM150 and RM100.

Jupiter's Faithlin Juhin received the Golden Ball award as best player, while Palvor I Lovelytha Jelus received the Golden Ball award (top scorer) with 13 goals and Rascalz's Julinih Tanis received the Golden Glove award (best goalkeeper).

The prize presentation ceremony was officiated by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Bernard Dompok, who in his speech encouraged women to be actively involved in the game and hopes that more tournaments will be held in the future in order to attract more participants into the game.

He also hoped to see more Sabah women futsal or football players representing Malaysia in any tournaments or international level meets and to be on par with their other counterparts in West Malaysia.

The Minister said he would fully support women's football association in promoting the development of women's futsal or football in the State.
