JAMES GALLAGHER15/01/2009THE Wauchope Warriors Futsal team is a "bunch of guys from the bush who play together".
And now they are a champion bunch.
The Warriors recently took out the Super Nova Northern NSW Premier League after a tense grand final victory against Lismore.
Goal keeper Stephen Fisher said the team was lucky to escape with the 2-1 win.
"We went a goal down early in the second half," he said.
And the boys from the bush left their run late, but it was effective.
"We just wore them down and in the last minute scored two goals through Matt Taylor and Sam Cass," the 19-year-old said.
"It was a really tight game but I think we were just able to wear them down and in the end we got the win."
The team is made up of three lads from Comboyne, two from Urunga and one from each of Beechwood, Ellenborough and Yarrowitch.
The team had been playing together for a few years but is still incredibly young.
The oldest in the team is 19-year-old. And there is metropolitan glory now in the sights of the team from Northern NSW.
A decision will be made soon if the team travels to Sydney later this month for the National Club Championships.
"We haven't decided yet but it would be great to go," the 19-year-old said.
Futsal continues to be a strong sport in the Wauchope and hinterland area.
