Edinburgh Evening NewsThree score and ten put best Futsal forwardMORE than 70 children's teams have kicked off their Winter Futsal programme.Teams from the East of Scotland Soccer Development Association and East Lothian Soccer Sevens Development Association and ten more from the South East Region Girls' Leagues (under-13 and under-15) are now taking part in weekly fixtures and these will continue for the next seven weeks.
The programme consists of a series of ten-minute games each Sunday morning at either the World of Football in Edinburgh or Dalkeith Campus School in Midlothian.
Keith Wright, SFA Football Development Officer for the South East, stated: "Futsal is a great tool for children and youth players to improve their technique over the winter months.
"You can see an improvement in the players over each session and each player is receiving lots of touches of the ball and there are lots of attempts on goal for players."
Teams are not playing for points and the ethos behind the programme is to provide an enjoyable and developmental environment for players while the weather is poor.
The 4v4, Soccer Sevens and Girls' Programmes will all commence again at the beginning of March and play into June.
