Get fit with a new sport

Monday 19th January 2009

SIXTH Formers looking to start the new year by getting fit and learn an exciting new sport need look no further than futsal coaching sessions at Sport Dyson Perrins.

The sessions, which kicked off on Monday, will run for eight weeks on Monday evenings from 5pm to 6pm. Funded by Malvern Hills District Council, through the Sport England initiative, Sports Unlimited, there will be a team of fully qualified coaches on hand to guide players through the new rules and techniques of the sport, which takes its style from Brazilian street football.

It is an opportunity for young football-lovers to expand on their skills, while being active and getting healthy within a club environment.

David Knapper, assistant sports development officer for Malvern Hills District Council, said: “It’s a fantastic and exciting sport which is great fun to play.

“Supporting children and young people to be healthy and active is one of the council’s top four priorities for 2008 to 2011, and by providing more unusual sports opportunities we hope that the younger residents of the district will find a sport they enjoy.”

As well as futsal, MHDC has developed a number of new and exciting sporting opportunities for young children aged between five and 19 in local schools and facilities within the Malvern area.

The cost of the Futsal programme is £5 for the eight weeks.

For more information, or to register for the course, call the council’s cultural services team on 01684 862151.
