FAI Futsal PortalPrimary and Secondary schools nationwide to battle it out in Futsal FinalsFriday, 16 January 2009Students from primary and secondary schools from around Ireland will meet throughout January and February to compete in the finals of the Futsal schools competition.
The secondary Futsal competition is in its first year nationally after a successful pilot programme last year in South Leinster. It caters for 1st year students both boys and girls. Each team have come through their county finals to get to the provincial stage and have been receiving coaching sessions from their local FAI Regional Development Officers. The competition is very highly regarded with each team wanting to take home the accolade of Provincial Futsal Champions and ultimately All Ireland Futsal Champions.
The
primary event is in its pilot stage with only schools in Leinster competing. It caters for boys and girls in 3rd and 4th class, an age group which is crucial in the development of young players. Each county winner has been receiving coaching sessions from their local FAI Regional Development Officer in preparation for the finals.
Secondary:
The Secondary Futsal Ulster Finals will take place on Monday 19th January from 10am – 3pm in the Phoenix Centre, Carrickmacross. Representing Cavan Boys will be Bawnboy while the girls will be represented by Breffni College. Colligite Monaghan town will be competing for Monaghan boys with the girls being represented by Inver College.
The Munster Finals will take place on Tuesday 20th January from 10am – 3pm in the University of Limerick. The boys competition will see 6 counties represented while the girls from 4 counties will battle it out for the title of Munster Champions.
Kerry, Tipperary, Kilkenny and Clare are competing in both girls and boys finals with Kerry represented by Killorglin Community College in he girl and boy sections. Tipperary are sending High School Clonmel for the boys while Presentation Thurles are competing for the girls. Kilkenny will be represented by Grennan College Thomastown in the boys section and Loretto Kilkenny City in the girls. St. Flannans College (girls) and Ennistymon CBS (boys) will wear the Clare colours in the finals.
De La Salle, Waterford and Presentation Brothers, Cork will also be represted in the boys competition.
The Leinster Finals take place on Wednesday 21st January from 10am – 3pm in the National Basketball Arena Dublin with 12 groups competing for the Leinster title in the boys section and nine groups in the girls competition.
Longford are represented by Moyne CC for the boys and girls competitons while Offaly are also sending the same school to represent both boys and girls, St. Brendan’s Birr. Portlaoise College will represent Laois in both categories also. Meath are represented by Boyne CS Trim in the boys section and Eureka Kells in the girls. Louth will be hoping that O FIach Dundalk will go far in the boys category while St Olivers Drog will compete in the girls section. Dublin Oka (boys) and Abbey CC (girls) will represent Wicklow. Wexford have four schools in the competition: Wexford CBS and New Ross CBS in the boys category and Colaiste an Atha and Colaiste Brid in the girls. The Kildare school representing the boys is St Pauls Monasterevin while Ard Scoil na Trionede will compete for the girls.
Further schools competing in the boys section are St Marys Academy CBS for Carlow, St James St for Dublin 2 and Knocklyon CC for Dublin south.
The Connacht Finals will take place on Thursday 5th February from 10am – 3pm in Sligo IT. St Josephs College will represent Galway while other county representatives have yet to be confirmed.
Those who win their provincial titles will travel to the All Ireland Final which will take place on Wednesday 11th February from 10am – 3pm at the National Basketball Arena Dublin.
Primary The Leinster Final of the primary competition takes place on Tuesday 10th February from 10am – 3pm in the National Basketball Arena Dublin.
Ballinalee NS will represent Longford in both the boys and girls competitions while O’Growney NS Athboy will compete for Meath boys and St. Marys Trim for the girls. Wexford will be hoping St. Josephs Gorey will do well in the boys section and Cranford NS in the girls. Aravon Enniskerry and St Malachys Dundalk will represent Wicklow and Louth respectively in the boys while Newtownmountkennedy and St. Joseph’s Dundalk will represent the girls.
