Busy weeks for national teams

National teams, at various levels, will be engaged in friendly games in the coming weeks as part of their preparation for competitive matches.

The Malta Under-17 side will be hosting Scotland in two friendly matches on January 19 and 21 at the MFA Training Grounds. The team, led by coach Oliver Spiteri, will then host Wales in another two friendly matches on March 1 and 3.

In view of the UEFA European Futsal Championship preliminary round mini-tournament in programme in February, the Malta Futsal national team will be facing a Sicilian Under-21 regional selection in two friendly matches at Corradino on February 3 and February 4.

In the UEFA mini-tournament, Malta will host Georgia, Albania and Greece between February 19 and 22.


The Malta A national team will make its final preparation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Albania in programme on February 11 with a friendly match against Hungarian side Ferencvaros on February 4.

According to the Malta Football Association's official website www.mfa.com.mt, the Hungarian second division club, who is now owned by Sheffield United chairman Kevin McCabe, will be holding a training camp in Malta in the first week of next month.

The Malta Under-21 side will be hosting Denmark in a friendly match on February 10 at the Hibernians Ground.

Another team to visit Malta for a friendly match is England C - the team that represents England at non-league level. The team managed by Paul Fairclough will be playing the Under-21 side on February 17 at the Hibs Ground.
The team led by Edwin Camilleri will be playing another friendly match against Slovenia on March 30.
