Three trophies decided on Futsal finals day

26 January 2009

Bedfordshire's first ever Futsal tournament reached its conclusion at the weekend with the finals of the Beds & Herts U16 Girls League.

The game of Futsal - five-a-side and played on a pitch measuring 40mx20m without side or end walls and with a smaller ball - takes some getting used to, but after five weeks of competition, the standard was high going into the finals day.

To maintain interest, three separate finals, the Futsal Cup, Futsal Plate and Futsal Vase, were staged, giving every side the opportunity to leave with a medal.

The Vase was the first competition to be decided, with the honours going to AFC Kempston Hey Jims, who edged Sandy Trips & Tricks into the runners-up spot. Kempston Longshots and Cranfield finished third and fourth respectively.

In the Plate, Crawley Green IIs came out on top, squeezing past Flitwick Eagles Blues by a solitary point, with the two St Martins sides finishing third and fourth.

The final trophy to be decided was the Futsal Cup, which went to St Martins Elves, who were the only team to win all of their games on the day. Sandy Golden Carrots claimed second place ahead of Flitwick Eagles Yellows and Crawley Green.
