EUROPEAN ACADEMY HIGHLIGHTS 2003 WAVE SUMMER SOCCER CAMP SCHEDULE

The Major Indoor Soccer League's (MISL) Milwaukee Wave announced today an agreement between the Wave and Queens Park Rangers of the English Football Association to co-sponsor a week-long European Academy at the QPR training grounds in West London from July 18-27, 2003. The Academy highlights the Wave’s 2003 summer soccer camp schedule which includes 55 sessions at 32 different locations.

“This is the first of what we hope will be many different opportunities to expand the game of soccer in Wisconsin and provide extended training for youth players in our area,” said Wave President / CEO Tim Krause. “The Queens Park Rangers have had a storied tradition in English professional soccer since 1882 and we are excited about the opportunity to work with such a well-known soccer club.”

“This is the culmination of our effort to bring an international element into our instruction and player development," said Wave/U.S. Futsal National Team Head Coach Keith Tozer. "This will be a unique opportunity for young players to expand their training and also to showcase their skills to European coaches.”

David Davies, Chief Executive of QPR, said, “This initial joint venture is extremely exciting for QPR. It is our first formal tie-up with a U.S. team and represents a major step forward for our club. The initial steps will see our coaching staff visit various camps in the U.S. prior to the Wave visit in July. The visit to London will allow players from Wisconsin to receive coaching from Coach Tozer and QPR’s manager Ian Holloway, as well as play games against local teams.”

“This initiative affirms the global appeal of the Major Indoor Soccer League,” said MISL Commissioner Steve Ryan. “This unique program sets the stage for additional international opportunities for the MISL in the future.”

The Wave’s traveling entourage to England will include Tozer, goalkeeper Victor Nogueira, and forward Michael King. King, a London native who developed his skills as a youth player in England, is also the Wave’s Director of European Operations.

“Our goal is to give youth players the ultimate soccer experience and at the same time give them significant exposure to European clubs and coaches,” said King, the Wave’s team captain and all-time leading scorer. “It’s an opportunity that all serious youth players need to consider.”

The first group of youth players to participate in the Wave European Academy will be made up of U-14 and U-16 boys. Interested players and families should contact the Wave Office at 414-224-WAVE (9283) for further details.
