Garas are Mayor's Cup champs

Kota Kinabalu: C-Garas beat Luta FC 4-0 on aggregate to take the winners trophy of the 2009 Mayor's Cup Futsal Championships, held at the Futsal Indoor Soccer Centre at Jesselton Point here, Sunday.

A total of 33 teams took part in the tournament, where they played in a winner pool and looser pool system.

Team C-Garas took home RM3,000 for winning the winner's pool, ousting team Hailboy and team Sempoi FC who won RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively, while winners of the loser's pool, Luta FC, went home with RM2,000 team CF Tanaru (RM1,000) and team Nasita FC (RM500).

C-Garas had an easy victory, with the first of its four goals coming as early as the second minute, courtesy of Basaama Koten, followed by a second by Datu Abdul Bersih in the fourth minute.

The other goals came from Eddie bin Mansur, who took just a minute to add to the goal tally, while Md Azlan bin Zaidin sealed the win in the sixth minute with another goal.

The winner's team also won an additional RM500 as the tournament's overall champion.

City Planning Unit Director cum event chairman, Alijus Haji Sipil, represented the Mayor. Also present were Suria Bumiria Sdn Bhd Executive Director, Zaini Aucasa and Deone Global Sdn Bhd Sales and Operation Manager, Teoh Tek Jin, who represented Adidas Malaysia and Graceone Group of Companies as event sponsors.
