Zac Lee RiggOne year after drafting him in the second round, D.C. United have signed Andrew Jacobson to a contract. D.C. United have signed midfielder Andrew Jacobson to a deal after drafting him in 2008. Jacobson signed a contract with French side FC Lorient instead of joining Major League Soccer, despite D.C. selecting him 24th overall in the 2008 SuperDraft.
“We are excited that Andrew is on board at D.C. United,” said United General Manager Dave Kasper. “He is a versatile two-way midfielder that has great technical ability and his size and work rate afford our team several options within the midfield.”
Jacobson's season abroad was scuppered by a foot injury before he suited up for the club. Once he healed, he was called up to the U.S. national futsal team that participated in the Futsal World Cup inRio de Janeiro, Brazil.
His move to D.C., delayed a year, will become official once United receive an International Transfer Certificate.
