NSC Expect 128 Teams For Futsal Fiesta

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- Organisers of the National Sports Complex (NSC) Futsal Fiesta expect 128 teams to participate in the tournament to be held at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Feb 21-22.

NSC's manager for events and management, Mohd Zulqurnain Muhammad said though only 80 teams have confirmed their participation thus far in the men, women and Under-15 events, they expect 128 teams to compete.

He added that though the NSC expects 128 teams to participate, NSC had made provisions for 160 teams.

"We have adequate facilities to cater for 160 teams as the stadium can accommodate eight futsal teams. And since we can use the venue from 9am to 10pm, there will be sufficient time to complete the tournament," he said.

He added that though the stadium was being used for the two-day competition, the National hockey squad's preparations for the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in April would be disrupted.

"We have spoken to the Malaysian Hockey Federation and mutually agreed to use the facilities as NSC's objective is to maximise the usage of venues in the complex and the artificial turf will be ideal for futsal competitions," he said.
