Futsal 2009: No goal, no donor yet

VietNamNet Bridge – The National Futsal Championship 2009 will run at the HCM City-based Phu Tho Sports House from February 20-28.

The tournament will gather ten teams, namely V.Sport of the HCM City Police Agency, the Good Land Real Estate Company (HCM City), Hoang Thu (Da Nang), Khanh Tan (Gia Lai), Maseco (HCM City), Pham Gia Auto (HCM City), Sauna (Khanh Hoa), Thai Son Bac, Thai Son Nam, and Vietcombank Quang Ngai.

The tournament will not have the participation of the Dilmah team, one of the strongest futsal teams in Vietnam.

Experts said the event is a chance for Vietnam’s futsal to prepare for the third Asian Indoor Games.

Though the event is about to come, the organizing board couldn’t find a sponsor. The Vietnam Football Development JS Company (VFD) is seeking sponsors to the women’s and men’s national futsal squads.

Nguyen Trong Thao, an official of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), said the VFF doesn’t pose any goal for futsal. After the National Futsal Championship 2009 closes, the federation will select the best players for the national squad.

Thao said the VFF planed to invite a Thai expert to train the national team. Overseas training has not been fixed yet because of a lack of funding.
