Italy futsal coach Alessandro Nuccorini has left his position by mutual consent to join Serie B football side Mantova Calcio as assistant to Mario Somma, who this week replaced Alessandro Costacurta
HonoursNuccorini, a coach since his teens, took charge of Italy in 1997 and led them to victory on home soil in the 2003 UEFA European Futsal Championship. Under his charge they also reached the final of the 2004 FIFA Futsal World Cup and 2007 EURO, losing both times to Spain, who also pipped them in the last season of the 2008 World Cup semi-final. The 44-year-old, who won 107 of his 151 games in charge, said: "I thank all the people I have worked with during the 12 years I spent with the national team, especially the players who helped Italy remain at the top level of world futsal." The Italian Football Federation is expected to announce Nuccorini's replacement in the next few days as they prepare for UEFA European Futsal Championship qualifying Group 4 from 19-22 March in Kaunas, where they meet hosts Lithuania, Belarus and one team to be determined from the preliminary round.
