University of South Dakota CoyotesUSD Futsal Camp a Success 19/2/2009VERMILLION, S.D.-- The University of South Dakota soccer team held its first ever Futsal Camp on Feb. 14 through Feb. 16. The camp was a success having over 50 campers compete. The camp included teaching technique skills, while also having small games, fun activities and competition.
A first annual Futsal Tournament was also held on Monday, Feb.16. Eight teams battled it out in a round robin style tournament. Each team played three games which ended with the “Team Old School”, comprised of students from USD, as the tournament champions. The second Futsal tournament will be held on March 20 and 22.
A Note from Camp:
The first ever University of South Dakota Futsal Camp kicked off on a great foot! The Women’s Soccer Team would like to thank all of the coaches, parents, and especially the kids, who made the camp happen!
It was a great opportunity to learn the game of futsal, enhance the quick decision making process, improve foot skills and agility, and all done in an exciting environment! We had over 50 campers ranging from ages 7 to 16.
Our youngest groups, self-named themselves “Pumas” and “Sharks,” were ready to try anything and all with a smile and contagious liveliness. According to our Sharks, “Sharks eat Pumas!”
Our middle-aged groups had so much energy they rivaled our coaches! They brought excitement and skill each day. They are a talented group of players that are quick to learn and master new skills. I think they may have won the “1, 2 inside outside, outside inside” battle!
Our oldest group wowed our campers with their advanced abilities. They demonstrated their high level of play and still continue to polish some of those skills as the camp went on.
Again, we want to say THANKS to all the people that had a part in making the first USD Futsal Camp a success, especially our Campers! Campers, thank you for sharing your time, energy, and passion for the game with us!
We definitely had some fun over the long weekend!
