Journal Gazette and Times-CourierSoccer clinics for grades K-8 set for Sunday at EIUCHARLESTON – Eastern Illinois men’s soccer program plans to will conduct a pair of youth Futsal clinics, open to students in grades kindergarten through eighth on Sunday afternoon at Lantz Fieldhouse.
The entry fee is only $10. Participants are encouraged to bring a soccer ball and indoor athletic shoes. Prizes and giveaways are to be handed out throughout the day and EIU men’s soccer players will also sign autographs.
The 75-minute clinics are split into two age groups. Grades K-4 register at 1 p.m. and play from 1:15 to 2:30 p.m. Grades 5-8 register at 2:30 p.m. and play from 2:45 to 4 p.m.
All registration is to take place the day of the clinic at the fieldhouse.
Futsal is the latest indoor training option popularized by the Brazilians. The program promotes better ball control skills and ground passing. Overall skills and decision making are also emphasized. This marks the third year in a row that EIU has played host to Futsal clinics.
