Dubai: The UAE Football Association (FA) on Monday signed partnership agreements with sports councils in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah to promote football, beach soccer and futsal tournaments for women.

The agreement was signed by Yousuf Abdullah, general secretary of the football association; Mohammad Al Mahmoud, general secretary of the Abu Dhabi sport council; Dr Ahmad Saad Al Sharif, general secretary of the Dubai sport council; and Ahmad Al Fardan, general secretary of the Sharjah sport council.

Abdullah said the UAE Football Association was looking to strengthen its relationship with sports councils across the country to give a boost to the game in its different forms.

Al Mahmoud said the Abu Dhabi council had charted plans to develop the ladies game. "We will prepare our national team in an excellent way to take part in the West Asia womens' championships which we will host during 2009. We also have future plans for developing womens' football in the UAE," he said.

Al Fardan said the Sharjah council had received offers from two companies for marketing futsal. "We will be looking to spread the game in the UAE by organising the first futsal league for UAE clubs which will kick off in October," he said

Dr Ahmad Al Sharif of Dubai thanked the FA for their efforts to build cooperation with the regional councils. "I think it's a good decision from the FA. we have a lot of programmes this year on top of which comes the hosting of the beach world cup in Dubai which will help popularise the game. We also have plans to organise a beach soccer league with UAE clubs taking part."
