This is WiltshireSign up your team for new Futsal leagueTuesday 24th February 2009FUTSAL is coming to Swindon, giving men, women and children the chance to play 5-a-side indoor football like they have never played it before.
Swindon boasts the UK's first dedicated Futsal arena ‑ @Futsal in Kembrey Park - and the league is set to be the largest in the country. And it's not too late to enter your team.
The men's league starts on March 2, and will be followed shortly by the youth (boys and girls) league and the women's.
The league will be split into divisions based on ability and will run over 12 weeks and feature cash prizes and trophies.
Futsal is played on FIFA regulation pitches which do not have walls around them like traditional 5-a-side pitches but proper touch-lines so the ball can go out of play. The ball is slightly smaller and has 30 per cent less bounce than a normal football, which lends itself perfectly to the indoor game and ball skills.
There is no over-head height rule and the game is all about improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces. The goalposts and nets are different as well and are similar to hockey goals rather than the normal low rectangular 5-a-side goals.
The state-of-the-art indoor football arena in Swindon was launched at the end of January.
Managing director Frank Rodriguez said: "We are currently having grading games to ensure that all the divisions are as fair as possible and we have a real mix of abilities and ages. If you contact us now we are offering free taster sessions so that any team can play a Futsal match for free, with no obligation.
"These are proving very popular and most teams sign up for the league as soon as their taster match finishes!"
