TeamBath Futsal Club – Developing Futsal in South West England

Introduction to Futsal:

We are a relatively new club that formed in January 2008. Futsal is the global version of 5 a-side football played by over 50 million people worldwide. Yet, in England it is largely unheard of.

It consists of different rules to normal 5 a-side such as:
- Touchlines mark the court
- Kick-ins to restart play when ball has gone out of play
- After 5 fouls the opposition are rewarded with a 10m penalty
- Goal keepers only have 4 seconds to pass the ball
- It is played with real time - so the clock stops every time the ball goes out
- Flying substitutions
- You can have up to 12 players in a team, only 5 on the court at anyone time

History:
Our club is completely made up of University Students, undergraduate and post-graduate. The club formed after holding open trials last January where over 50 players turned up on one night. At this point all the club had was one ball to its name, yet since then through the hard work of the committee we have managed to raise funds to give us far more equipment – 1 kit, 10 balls, 8 bibs, 20 cones. We have also worked hard to liaise with the University of Bath and TeamBath to enter into several competitions.

TeamBath Futsal Club today now has 3 teams, 2 Men’s teams and a Women’s team. Our men’s 1st team currently play in the FA Midlands Futsal Conference and finished 3rd in this League last season. This league is the highest Futsal division in the country. The 1st team was also Somerset County Futsal League Winners for 2008 and went onto represent Somerset regionally and nationally last year. This year we have grown creating a reserve team and a women’s team who both compete locally and regionally. All our teams are made up of many different nationalities and we compete all over England and this year potentially Europe as we become ever increasingly successful. The club has also recently applied for Adult Charter Standard Status with Somerset Football Association as it has reached certain standards off the court regarding club structure, establishing a code of conduct, and in terms of what services we offer to the local community. This will raise the profile of the club and provide some much needed extra funding.

We are an extremely ambitious club who aims to reach the FA National Futsal Play offs as well as head to Sheffield next month to the University National Futsal Finals with the aim of winning the competition. However, Futsal in South West England is limited so we are working hard to create more teams. If you are interested in playing Futsal with TeamBath please get in contact with the club.
