Well, the North Riding County FA are running a qualifying tournament for the FA Futsal Cup, with the winners progressing to the FA Futsal Cup regional qualifying round, which in turn advances to the national finals held in Sheffield in July.
Futsal is a version of indoor football that uses a smaller, less bouncy ball, has no restrictions on height, the ball can go out of play and you can score from anywhere into bigger goals! The rules are such that promote a tactical, more skilful game of 5-a-side football than most people are used to. It is played passionately in Brazil and can be credited for the skills of top footballers such as Kaka, Robinho and Juninho.
The North Riding Futsal Cup is a perfect opportunity to get involved in this fast growing sport and who knows, you could be playing in the UEFA Futsal Cup in 2011! The FA Futsal Cup is futsal’s equivalent of The FA Cup, while it also represents the perfect opportunity for new teams to take it up, it can open up doors to playing in the FA Futsal League, the equivalent of the FA Premier League!
The North Riding Futsal Cup will feature eight teams from across the county, including two who already play in the FA Futsal League: Middlesbrough and FC Barsa. The league will run over a few selected Sundays between March and May, with matches being played in Teesside and York. One group of 4 will play in York, one in Teesside, with the top two of each group progressing to a finals day where the winners will go on to represent the County in the Regional Playoffs.
All participating teams will have the chance to join a league, which will commence after the FA Futsal Cup Finals in August and will open up opportunities to play in the national Futsal League for committed teams in 2010.
