Menichelli to lead Italy in futsal qualifying

Roberto Menichelli will lead Italy in UEFA European Futsal Championship qualifying later this month after taking over a position made vacant by Alessandro Nuccorini's departure.

Menichelli, 46, was appointed Nuccorini's assistant in 1999 after a playing career in which he won 28 Azzurri caps and aided Italy's victory in the 2003 European finals as well as their runners-up finish in the last edition in 2007 and the 2004 FIFA Futsal World Cup. He will work alongside Paolo Minicucci, who coached Italy to the UEFA European Under-21 Futsal Tournament final last December, losing only in extra time to hosts Russia. Italy will travel to Kaunus for European qualifying Group 4 against Georgia, Belarus and hosts Lithuania from 19-22 March, aiming to book a place in next January's finals in Hungary.
