Quake sides win grand finals

25/02/2009

THE NSW Futsal Premier League came to a climax on Saturday with Campbelltown Quake teams winning two of the three grand finals they played.

The 14-boys and 16-girls teams were crowned champions. The open men's team, missed out in a penalty shootout.

In the 14-boys game, Quake beat Vipers 3-1, with two goals coming from Daniel Vellonio and one from Marko Vukovic.

In the seventh minute, Vellonio's right foot strike put Quake in front.

The lead lasted a minute before Dillon Vorster tapped in at the far post to equalise for the Vipers.

Quake regained the lead through a Vukovic's goal just before half-time.

Vellonio notched his second goal early in the second half.

The 16-girls beat Magic 2-1.

Sharon Walsh and Linda Dudek scored for Quake.

This game was played at a frantic pace with end-to-end action throughout the match.

Quake led 2-0 but Magic scored from a free-kick move to set up a grandstand finish. Their defensive effort proved invaluable and they were crowned champions for the second consecutive year.

The open men's team drew 1-1 with Danny Martinez scoring for Quake.

The first half was scoreless.

Martinez broke the deadlock to give Quake the lead in the 19th minute of the second half when he ran on to a pass from Tuan Cao.

But a defensive error from the Quake just two minutes later had the scores level.

Magic goalkeeper Peter Spathis proved the difference, as he saved four penalties to give his team the grand final victory.
