Blind futsal heads to Croatia for first ever courses in the region Madrid, 11th March 2009The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) is set to take futsal for the blind and partially sighted to the Balkan region for the first time ever this weekend. Seminars for coaches and referees will be held in Zagreb, Croatia, as part of the IBSA Futsal Development Project Europe, made possible thanks to support from UEFA.
The seminars will be held in a city-centre hotel and local sports centre, and they are organised in partnership with the Croatian Blind Sports Association. Around fifty-five referees and coaches representing four countries – Croatia, Serbia, FYR of Macedonia and Bosnia & Herzegovina – are expected to attend the two-day event.
Theoretical sessions on coaching blind players and refereeing matches will take place on Friday March 13th, followed by hands-on practical sessions on Saturday 14th. A group of local blind players has been recruited to take part in the practical sessions.
Participants will be given a solid grounding in the coaching and refereeing skills required for blind futsal by an international IBSA team with ample experience in the game. Spanish international player and European Champion Alfredo Cuadrado will also be on hand to demonstrate the different skills and techniques needed to play the game.
After the two days’ teaching it is hoped participants will be able to return to their clubs and organisations ready to offer the chance to play football to blind and partially sighted players in their countries.
