Rudnev returns as Dinamo ditch Sapo

Wednesday 18 March 2009

Sérgio Sapo has been dismissed as coach of UEFA Futsal Cup final four contenders MFK Dinamo Moskva, with the Russian side naming the Brazilian's predecessor Yuri Rudnev as his replacement.

Past master
The former coach of Japan's national futsal team was appointed Rudnev's replacement on 22 January, but lost crucial ground in the race for the Russian title, notably with a 6-1 defeat by league leaders MFK Viz-Sinara Ekaterinburg. The Dinamo board has decided to bring back Rudnev, who had worked with the capital club in two previous spells since 2003. The 54-year-old won four domestic titles with Dinamo as well as the 2007 UEFA Futsal Cup.

'Glad to be back'
"I'm very glad to be back," Rudnev told uefa.com. "As far as I can see, everybody is still giving their all. Obviously, my predecessor had his own tactical ideas, so something must have changed, but I have no doubt about the players' professionalism. We're still targeting the highest goals. Despite the big gap between us and Ekaterinburg, we'll keep battling for the title." Dinamo trail the leaders by seven points and play them in the UEFA Futsal Cup semi-finals on 24 April in Ekaterinburg.
