FUTSAL: Warneford girls are inaugural winners

Highworth Warneford’s school team triumphed in the first-ever Year Nine Futsal competition in Swindon.

They came through the league stages, scoring 14 goals in total and only conceding one.

They then beat Dorcan 2-1 in a tense final, goals coming from Shannon Pedder and a last-minute effort from Molly Parker.

Pedder was also named player of the tournament.

The Wiltshire Futsal League has been accepted as an official feeder competition for the prestigious FA Futsal Cup, which is sure to make the competition even closer.

The WFL runs over four nights from Monday to Thursday at the new Futsal arena in Swindon.

The top teams from each division will play off for the right to participate in the South West regional qualification round of the 2009 national cup.
