The AFC.comPlans afoot for medical seminars19 March 2009KUALA LUMPUR: The AFC’s Football Medicine Department is hoping to follow last year’s formula and organise education seminars in 2009 in conjunction with major centralised tournaments.
In 2008, successful Football Medicine Seminars were held in Vietnam (AFC Women’s Asian Cup), Uzbekistan (AFC U-16 Championship) and Saudi Arabia (AFC U-19 Championship).
This year, seminars are planned for August’s AFC U-19 Women’s Championship in Wuhan, China and November’s AFC U-16 Women’s Championship, with Thailand the possible venue.
It is also hoped to stage a seminar with the AFC Futsal Club Championship in Esfahan, Iran in July, though this has yet to be confirmed. Among recommendations made last year is to make it compulsory for team doctors and/or physiotherapists to attend the seminars.
In addition, the programme should include a physical inspection of the medical facilities provided by the Local Organising Committee.
