FAI Futsal Portal St. Ciarans overcome brave St. Pat’s challenge!Thursday, 26 March 2009St. Ciarans, Hartstown overcame a gallant St.Patricks, Corduff 3-2 on penalties after playing out an exhilarating 1-1 draw in normal time in the final of the FAI/Fingal CoCo Intercultural Cup last Tuesday, March 24th. Both teams played an exciting style of attacking football which everyone enjoyed and set down their credentials in this final by bringing 100% records into the final game of the tournament.
This new tournament, which will be hosted annually in Dublin 15, sees 5th and 6th class students from local schools in Dublin 15 competing in an ‘Intercultural Football’ initiative by the FAI in conjunction with Fingal CoCo. The tournament incorporates a one day Futsal blitz with a 30 min workshop for all players on Tackling Racism in Sport combined with the FAIs ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ initiative.
Paul O Reilly, FAI/ Fingal CC Football Development Officer for the area stated, “Its great to see all these young footballers playing in an organised tournament, showcasing their skills, playing without pressure and competing in a great spirit. Highlighting the importance of ‘Tackling Racism in Sport’ and increasing awareness amongst these young people will reap benefits in the years to come.
