Report from Canada: the futsal revolution is coming!

Canadian Futsal
Report by our canadian collaborator Kris Fernandes

National futsal website coming soon

Toronto - In Canada many people still think the great game of futsal is that one you play with your friends in the basement or local pizzeria that feautures spinning metal rods around with plastic stationary players attached to them while trying to score 10 points. Though the game described is commonly known here as foosball (gitoni/jitz) no one could blame the average Canadian for confusing the two.

A big reason why futsal is still so little known in Canada, even within the soccer community, is because of the lack of exposure it gets. It is rare to find Canadian futsal news anywhere in the country in print or online. Though the nation's top soccer publication, Inside Soccer Magazine always publishes any news it gets and soccer news site extraordinaire bcsoccerweb.com has always been a strong friend of the local game (not to mention good 'ol Futsal Planet!), it is sad to see the sport struggle for even a sentence in local town papers when a team wins a championship.

Well the sport is getting a desperately needed promotional tool come May 1st when futsalcanada.ca officially launches.

It will be a site specifically tailored for all things futsal with a special emphasis on giving Canadian futsal an identity and home.

The goal of futsalcanada.ca is to rapidly promote futsal and all the tremendous benefits it offers players of all ages. It will host tons of content including; domestic and international futsal news & stories, training manuals, player and club profiles, match photos, interactive equipment reviews, and matches videos.

The majority of Canadians that play indoor soccer currently play multiple variations of the game that usually includes 7 or 8 players per team, artificial turf pitches, and in many cases ice hockey boards. But considering that futsal is the only version of indoor soccer that is supported and promoted by FIFA (There is an actual FIFA Futsal World Cup) it is inevitable that it will become a staple in the Canadian soccer diet.

Any players, clubs, or leagues that wish to be included on the site can contact info@futsalcanada.ca

Check it out on May 1st.
