Ekaterinburg meet Interviú in Sunday decider

Friday 24 April 2009

by Paul Saffer from Ekaterinburg

For the fourth year running the UEFA Futsal Cup final will match clubs from Russia and Spain when hosts MFK Viz-Sinara Ekaterinburg defend their title against Interviú Madrid on Sunday.

Semi-final victories
Viz, who were victorious on their competition debut last season, kept up their perfect European run with a thrilling 2-0 semi-final defeat of domestic rivals MFK Dinamo Moskva on Friday in front of a full Ekaterinburg Palace of Sport, a venue that will be packed again for the decider. The home side will be up against 2004 and 2006 winners Interviú Madrid, who will aim for an unprecedented third UEFA Futsal Cup after beating Kairat Almaty 5-0 to earn a fourth final appearance in six years. The Spanish side lost their most recent to Dinamo two years ago in Murcia, the first edition of the four-team one-venue showpiece stage.

Schedule
Sunday's action will begin at 14.30 CET (18.30 local time) when Dinamo play Kairat for third place for the second year running, the Russian side having prevailed 5-0 as hosts 12 months ago. Then at 17.00 CET (21.00 local time), Ekaterinburg will attempt to become only the second team in the competition's eight-year history to lift the trophy in front of their own fans when they take on Interviú. The Madrid side will hope to repeat their 2006 two-legged triumph against Dinamo, while Ekaterinburg have happy memories of their only previous UEFA Futsal Cup encounter with a Spanish side, their final defeat of ElPozo Murcia FS last year when they prevailed 3-2 on penalties after a pulsating 4-4 draw. The matches will be live on Eurosport and streamed on uefa.com: click here for details.
