Times and Star Girls get a kick out of futsalThursday, 30 April 2009SIXTH formers in the west of Cumbria got the opportunity to take part in a futsal taster session at Workington Sixth Form Centre.
The girls were put through their paces to get used to the difference between futsal and traditional five-a-side football before taking part in a competition in the afternoon.
Twenty girls took part throughout the day enjoying the challenge of the new game whilst competing in a fun environment.
The girl’s appetites have been whetted following football opportunities at the County Umbro FIVES competition last year and are looking forward to this year’s competition at Whitehaven.
Futsal differs from five-a-side in that there are no boards to rebound the ball off, the ball is smaller and can be kicked above head height. Also, the goals are narrower and higher.
