Middlesbrough Futsal ClubKilbride: Boro fired upThursday, 07 May 2009The North Riding Futsal Cup may not be Boro's top priority but the quarter-final second leg against fierce rivals University of York throws up a challenge that the squad are more than up for, according to Jason Kilbride.
Kilbride helped Boro to claw back a 7-1 deficit in the first leg with a vital goal as flying goalkeeper to make it 7-5, and Boro are confident of overturning a two-goal deficit with home advantage.
"I believe we have a squad of players who can turn over any team on our day. I think we did well last time to come back from 7-1 as a six goal deficit would have been very difficult to come back from. We've been working on one or two things and if all comes together I think we can comfortably overturn York."
Boro have only lost the one time against York, and when the teams met last in The FPL, Boro came out 9-2 winners. More recently, the University of Teesside dominated York in the BUCS Trophy final, thanks to playing without a goalkeeper and won the trophy comfortably with a 7-2 win. A repeat of either of these two results will send York home and crashing out of the competition, but Kilbride also knows they will be aiming to claim a scalp against their rivals.
"I'm really looking forward to the game, especially with the rivalry between the two teams. A few of us were in the team that easily beat them in the BUCS final and with the rest of the Boro squad I think we can repeat the performance... Come on boys!"
Jason was talking to BoroFutsal.com just hours before the big kick off.
You can see Boro take on York at the University of Teesside for free, kick off at 7pm.
