Black Roses, FC SKBC dominant in FFAS outdoors 5-a-side kickoff

Black Roses and FC SKBC dominated the first two rounds of
the men's side of competitions in the Football Federation of American Samoa's Futsal competition that kicked off on Saturday,
May 9, 2009 at Pago Park Soccer Stadium.

They, and one other team, won all two of their games on
Saturday and are just two goals apart in goals scored so far with 22 to Black Roses and 20 for SKBC.

In goals difference, the two are separated by four with 18 for
Black Roses to take the No. 1 seed in the standings while FC SKBC has 13 for second place and Utulei Youth is third with 7. At the moment Jets I is fourth with 2 goals difference to 0 by Jets II.

The results for round one are as follows: Tafuna Jets I 8, Aua Old Boys 4; Black Roses 17, PanSa 10; Utulei Youth 3, Lion Heart 0 (forfeit); Fagasa Youth 3, Pago Youth 0 (forfeit) and FC SKBC 9, Tafuna Jets II 3. In round two results, it was Black Roses 6, Tafuna Jets I 3; Lion Heart 2, PanSa 2; Tafuna Jets II 8, Pago Youth 2; Utulei Youth 7, Fagasa Youth 3 and FC SKBC 11, Aua Old Boys 4.


The women's teams were given the day off so that they could see
to their final Mothers Day preparations such as picking up their new church outfits and dictating what they wanted for Sunday to'ana'i.

Their division kicks off this Saturday as they open the day
with three contests at 11 a.m. There are eight teams competing in the
women's bracket while 10 are contesting the men's division.

Playoffs will be a Top 4 and Bottom 4-playoff format for
both divisions with teams ranked by record No. 1 through 4 playing for the competition's championship and the squads ranked from No. 5 to No. 8 playing to be the "Best of the Worst."

In the bottom four it's Jets II in 5th place, followed by Fagasa Youth, Lion Heart and PanSa. Pago Youth and Aua Old Boys round out the bottom of the standings at 9th and 10th place, respectively.

Below is a rundown of Saturday, May 9's games.


ROUND 1

FC SKBC 9, JETS II 3
FC SKBC turned a close 4-2 halftime lead into a 9-3 blowout
by the end with Chris Seui scoring a hat trick in the latter half of the match. Yongnam Cho also finished with a hat trick of his own while Gun Kang, Jin Lee and Jin Yong Lee added one goal apiece. Scoring for the Jets II were Sio S., Matthew Mariota and Faofua Afasene.

BLACK ROSES 17, PANSA 2
Black Roses raced to a 10-0 lead in the first half with PanSa fielding only three players in the game's first five minutes. Asomaliu Pei had a game-high 5 goals while Alapati Sula scored a hat trick and Dion Ott, Tafai Tuiuli and Sonny Filiva'a scored two goals apiece.

JETS I 8, AUA OLD BOYS 4
Filipo O., Sam T. and Sean led Jets I to a 6-1 lead in the first half with a brace of goals each and then Filipo and Sean scored again in the second half to complete their hat tricks.
Ike Ike scored twice for Aua while Nicky Salapu and Petesa Umusaga
added one goal apiece.


ROUND 2

BLACK ROSES 5, JETS I 3
Black Roses came back from 3-1 to beat Jets I 6-3 behind a brace by Dion Ott in the second half to tie the match 3-3. Asomaliu Pei, who leads the competition with 6 goals scored, kicked in the go-ahead goal after Ott's brace and Alapati Aasa added one of his own to give the winners a two-goal edge in the game's final 8 minutes.
Sam T. scored a brace in the first half and a Black Roses-own
goal gave them a 3-1 first half edge.

LION HEART 2, PANSA 2
Lion Heart forfeited their first round game because they
failed to field a team upon the scheduled time against Utulei Youth but they were ready and prepared for their second round match against PanSa. PanSa also managed to add to their numbers after fielding only three to start off their first round contest against Black Roses. These two teams played to a 2-2 draw after also closing out the first half 1-1.

UTULEI YOUTH 7, FAGASA YOUTH 3
Utulei and Fagasa Youths actually played their first games of the day when they met one another after winning their first round matches by forfeit. Utulei got the W because Lion Heart was late while Fagasa got theirs when Pago Youth showed up with no uniform.
Utulei then pulled out a 7-3 win over Fagasa after edging
the latter 2-1 in a tightly contested first half. Elama Fa'atonu scored a brace in the second half to help lead Utulei to the win.

FC SKBC 11, AUA OLD BOYS 4
Aua Old Boys managed to contain FC SKBC's offensive output in the second half to only three goals while scoring three themselves but it was an 8-1 advantage in the first half that helped the South Korean Baptist Church squad secure the 11-4 result in their favor and also keep themselves in the race for the top seed with Black Roses in the goals scored and goal difference categories. Gun Kang had a game-high four goals while Melfi Al-Sheri added a hat trick and Jin Yong Le and Jin Lee added a brace each. Nicky Salapu had a team-high two goals for Aua while Ike Ike had one. Aua also benefited from a Jin Yong Lee-own goal.

JETS II 8, PAGO YOUTH 2
Matthew Mariota helped the Jets II to their first win of the
season with a hat trick while Faofua Afasene had a double in the second half of the match that turned a 3-1 halftime lead to an 8-2 rout. Also scoring goals for Jets II were Vili Oney, Mac Manuma and Shane Taulealo. Scoring for Pago Youth were Kevin Lakisa and Gene.
