JAYESH THAKER Jamshedpur, May 19: The McDowell’s Celebrations and Corporate Futsal are back and in a few months the action will begin on the field.
United Spirits Limited (USL) will be organising the tournaments that will be held in September and October respectively.
Anand Tiwary, the deputy general manager (Jharkhand) of USL, said: “We fix the dates for the tournaments in consultation with Tata Football Academy and Jamshedpur Sporting Association. Celebrations futsal began last year in Calcutta in which around 40 teams took part,” he added.
He said celebrations futsal would get bigger and better this year. “Top four teams from Jamshedpur Sporting Association Super Division and two each from the Premier and A divisions of the local league will participate in the tourney. Top three teams of this tournament will qualify for the regional finals to be held in Calcutta,” Tiwary added.
Speaking about corporate futsal, the senior USL official said teams from Tata Steel, Tata Motors and Tinplate would vye for top honours. The teams would consist of executives and other employees who have a liking for soccer, he said, adding the tourney would give the much-needed break to employees from their offices.
“Futsal is mainly a five-player affair. Each team will have seven players and a coach but only five can play at a time. However, substitution can be done made randomly,” Tiwary said.
The size of the ground would be 40mx25m while the goalpost would measure 3m (width) and 2m (length).
