Chippenham are Futsal cup champions

CHIPPENHAM FC were crowned Wiltshire champions after seeing off Malwee FC in the regional finals of the FA Futsal Cup at Swindon’s Futsal Arena.

Malwee FC had beaten Chippenham 4-3 earlier in the group stages and went into the final full of confidence.

However, despite racing into a 3-1 lead, Chippenham battled back to level at 3-3.

Malwee then went 4-3 in front but were denied victory when Chippenham’s England captain Luke Ballinger scored to force a penalty shoot-out.

Chippenham then calmly scored each of their penalty kicks while Malwee struck the bar with one of theirs.

Chippenham now go forward to the FA Cup south west regional heats on June 6 where they will come up against the best Futsal teams in the south west.

The event will take place at the Swindon Futsal Arena in Kembrey Park.

Spectators are welcome at the event, which starts at 9am. Admission is free and details can be found at www.futsaluk.net.

There were plenty of surprises in the second season of Futsal in Wiltshire with several top teams from last season finding the going tougher this time around.

Early pace-setters include new teams Kam Auto Services, Swindon Rangers and AK Aardvarks.

The North Wilts Youth Futsal League kicks off this weekend and is the largest youth Futsal league ever held. A new ladies league has also started on Wednesday nights.
