FA Futsal League Update

by Damon Shaw

Sheffield and Hallamshire secured second place in the North with a win in the Sheffield derby on Sunday, and will join Middlesbrough in the FA Futsal Cup finals, without having to go through the qualifying round. Loughborough beat Manchester to stay three points behind Sheffield and Hallamshire with a game in hand. Manchester are in dire need of a win in their next game as they are in danger of slipping away from the playoff places. They play league leaders Middlesbrough in the next round!

Sheffield FC are all but out of contention for a playoff place, trailing by eight points with only five games remaining and would need a series of fortunate results to claw their way back this season. Grimsby's recent revival was cut short by FC Barsa, which gives them their first points of the season, but a lot too late. They will now be hoping to get some good results and finish off the bottom for the second season in succession.

In the midlands Tranmere lost to bottom of the table Birmingham Tigers but still secured a place in the FA Futsal Cup finals along with Hartpury College, who are top. The midlands league is wide open with only six points seperating second and bottom, with half the season still remaining any two could be in the playoffs come October.

Helvecia broke all records for the FA Futsal League South with a 35-1, that's right, thirty five, over Deportivo QM. They are top with two games in hand already and lead Kickers by a point. Both Helvecia and Kickers will be in the FA Futsal Cup finals by virtue of direct passage.

The top three teams from the North, Midlands and South will meet at the Grass Roots Football Live show at the NEC in Binrmingham on 14th June for a three way exhibition tournament.
