Hermans to end Netherlands reign

Vic Hermans is to end his eight-year reign as Netherlands coach after missing out on the 2010 UEFA European Futsal Championship.

Wide-ranging role
Hermans, who led the Netherlands to the 2005 European finals, will depart when his contract expires on 1 July. Player of the tournament as the Oranje finished second in the first FIFA Futsal World Cup in 1989, he was capped 45 times and scored 23 goals for his country. He went on to coach Hong Kong, Malaysia and Iran as well as Lommel SK's football team, before joining the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) where he has been involved with the Under-21, U19 and women's futsal teams as well as regional training centres. Hermans has also become an important member of UEFA and FIFA's technical study groups.

Contract expired
The KNVB's Ruud Bruijnis said: "We spoke to Vic Hermans recently about a possible contract extension but unfortunately we did not agree a new contractual period. We regret his departure and thank Vic Hermans for his important contribution to futsal development in the Netherlands." Hermans added: "I would have loved to have stayed on as futsal national coach but unfortunately we didn't agree terms." The Netherlands finished third in their 2010 qualifying group and Hermans' successor will lead their bids to reach the 2012 European Championship and World Cup finals.
