Indonesia Whip Hapless Malaysia 7-3

KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian futsal team started their Asean Footbal Federation (AFF) Futsal championship on a wrong footing in Group A after suffering an embarrassing 3-7 defeat to Indonesia at the Phu Tho Gymnasium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam under extraordinary circumstances.

The Malaysian team had to endure a prolonged misery throughout the match when they were reduced to four players after goalkeeper Mohd Firdaus Razali and his replacement Devandran Supramaniam were given the marching orders in succession, by the referee.

"After the goalkeeper was red carded, we had to play the match with four players against Indonesia's five and with a player standing as the goalkeeper it was a nightmare," said Malaysian team manager Hamidin Mohd Amin when contacted by Bernama.

The loss meant, Malaysia need to win both the remaining matches against defending champion Thailand and Myanmar, to revive any hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals, he said.

Tomorrow, Malaysia play Thailand who routed Myanmar 16-6 in another Group A match.
