Futsal coach in for a tough time

PETALING JAYA: Newly-appointed Malaysian futsal coach Silvio Sergio Machada will have his hands full preparing the national team for three major tournaments this year.

The first assignment will be the toughest when they play host to the Kuala Lumpur World Fives, scheduled for June 3-6 at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil. A total of 12 teams will compete, including defending champions Spain, Brazil, Italy, Holland, Egypt, Costa Rica, Australia, Russia, Thailand, Japan and Iran.

The next tournament is the 2nd Asean Football Federation's (AFF) Tournament in Cambodia in July followed by the 5th Asian Football Confederation's (AFC) Tournament in Japan from July 28-Aug 4.

Brazilian Machada is expected to pick his training squad from the 3rd National Championships, which will be held at the Putra Stadium from March 3-7.
