More than 80 girls from 10 different teams across Wiltshire took part in the festival, with four new sides created for their first taste of competitive football.
Town’s Community Trust runs three girls’ soccer centres and two girls’ after school clubs, which were launched as a result of the Football League handout.
The three-year funding will help the trust to expand women’s and girls’ football development across Swindon, creating more playing opportunities from grassroots through to competitive fixtures, working closely with the Wilts FA, Swindon Borough Council and local schools.
Shane Hewlett, Swindon’s Football in the Community Trust development officer said: “This is the first girls-only football festival that Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust has delivered.
“It has been a great success with more than 80 girls all having a fantastic time and having the opportunity to compete in a festival-style format like their male counterparts.
“The funding we have received will go a very long way in developing girls’ football in Swindon. With this funding we will be able to deliver more festivals like this in the future.
“The funding will also enable us to develop female participation on a wider scale with the introduction of more players, more teams and more female coaches.”
Any girls or women who want to get involved in football should call the community office on 01793 421303.
