Shootout puts Vietnam into ASEAN futsal champs final

Vietnam beat Indonesia 8-7 in a semi-final penalty shootout at the ASEAN Football Federation Futsal Championship on June 12.
With a score of 3-all after extra time, the game at HCM City’s Phu Tho Gymnasium went to a shootout.

Goalkeeper Dang Phuoc Anh scored the last penalty kick of the shootout, earning Vietnama place in the final.
Nguyen Quoc Binh opened the score in the 20th minute but Indonesia’s Alfinansyah Nur equalized it three minutes later. Nguyen Bao Quan put the hosts ahead again in the 32nd minute but Sayan Karmidi soon evened the score.

Vietnam led for a third time when Quan scored his second goal in the 37th minute from the penalty spot but Sayan Karmadi’s last goal tied the match.

Earlier, defending champions Thailand crushed the Philippines 8-2 to sail into the final for a fifth consecutive year.

Vietnam will take on Thailand at 5pm on June 13.
