Saigon GP DailyVietnam beat Indonesia to play Thais in SEA futsal final Vietnam edged out Indonesia in the semifinals of the 2009 Southeast Asian Futsal (indoor football) Championship on June 12 to play powerhouse and defending champions Thailand in the Sunday final.
At the Phu Tho Indoor Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam drew 3-3 with Indonesia after the two extra halves, and won 8-7 via the penalty shootout.
The home side took the lead with 1-0 but the other side drew. This repeated again and again, 2-1 and 2-2, then 3-2 and 3-3 in the official time. They two teams had to play the extra halves but none goals were scored.
In the penalty shootout, the home side failed twice but Indonesia failed three times.
Also in the semifinals, defending champions Thailand crush the Philippines 8-2.
Beating the Thais or being defeated, Vietnam will take their first futsal medal in Southeast Asia.
After the semifinals, the Vietnam Football Federation awarded a VND100 million (US$5,880) bonus for the Vietnam team. Ho Chi Minh City-based Thai Son Nam Company, which often sponsors mini football events here, also did the same.
