Futsal fever returning to Sheffield

Sheffield will once again play host to two weekends of Futsal competitions organised by the Football Association. Futsal is a format of Small Sided Football recognised and supported by FIFA and UEFA.

The name 'Futsal' simply combines the Spanish words for ‘Hall’ – Sala and ‘Football’ – Futbol into Futsal. It is a five-a-side game, played with hockey sized goals and a smaller ball with a reduced bounce which improves skilful and creativity.

It’s fast and furious and extremely entertaining to watch so two whole weekends of Futsal matches to watch within the city is unmissible.

First up is The FA Youth Futsal Festival to be held on 27th and 28th June at English Institute for Sport. The festival is back for a second year after being successful run by Sheffield & Hallamshire FA as part of its ongoing, award winning Futsal Development programme.

The best junior Futsal teams from across the Country will be taking part. The FA Cup sponsored by E.ON will also be making a guest appearance across the weekend.

The following weekend at the same venue sees the return of The FA Futsal Cup, the most prestigious knock out competition for Futsal teams in England. The competition is now into its 7th year sees the very best men’s and women’s futsal teams battling it out for the FA Futsal Cup title.

This weekend is a major event on the world Futsal competition calendar and is a showcase for the games popularity and development within the UK.
