The Bank of Guam Crushers (2-0) dished out a 9-1 defeat to Team Genesis (0-2) yesterday at the Agat gym during week three of the Guam Football Association’s Men’s Futsal League.

Eliseo Zamarron bagged a hat trick to lead the charge for the Crushers, while Mathew Potter and John Ilao aided in the win with two goals apiece.

“We’re molding a litle bit better as a team,” said Zamarron after the win. “We’re starting to put more goals in the net and we’re getting better touches.”

Kris Finch scored Genesis’ only goal with three minutes left in the game in between Crusher’s goal keeper Aaron Jackons’ legs.

Genesis, a five-man squad, stood their ground early and allowed only one goal to be scored on them in the final minute of the first half. The scoring play came from a well-placed pass from Potter to Ilao, who put the Crushers ahead 1-0 at halftime.

Genesis goal keeper Jonel Banal tallied nine of his 19 total saves in the first to keep the Crushers from running up the score.

“We have a smaller team than them,” said Kevin Hashimoto, Genesis’ forward. “Conditioning is a big thing. It’s two 25-minute halves and we only have one sub.”

“We need better teamwork and smarter passes,” he added.

Hashimoto and Ryan Tiong had several opportunities to score in the first half, but came up empty.

The Crushers Ilao and Hailey Sakamoto scored quick goals to start the second half. Moments later, Zamarron came alive and scorched Genesis for three straight goals, the most he’s scored all season in one game.

“Hopefully, there are many more [hat tricks] for me to come as the season progesses,” said Zamarron.

The Crusher’s Ilao and Vuong Duong added one more goal and Potter scored two more before time expired to put an exclamation point on their win.

The Crushers played with high intensity and aggressiveness, however, they kept their fouls to five. Genesis committed six fouls.
