Seven up for Thailand

Thailand have won seven ASEAN Futsal championships in a row.
HO CHI MINH CITY – Thailand won their seventh successive AFF Futsal Championship title on Sunday when a youthful side from the Kingdom defeated hosts Vietnam 4-1 in the final.

Tournament MVP Keattiyot Chalaemkhet set up Suphawut Thuenklang for Thailand’s opener before further goals from Na-tee Thusiri, Kritsada Wongkaeo and Nattawut Kongnimit completed the scoring for the defending champions.

Ngo Anh Dung neeted a consolation for the hosts two minutes from full-time but it was not enough to deny a seventh ASEAN title for the Thais, who will be looking to claim top honours in Asia at next year’s AFC Futsal Championship.

“This team is making steady progress as we have expected,” Thailand head coach Wisan Maijivit told www.aseanfootball.org after the match

“Several of the players are already training with the senior national team and I expect a few more will make the grade in the not so distant future.”

Meanwhile, Sayan Karmadi emerged as the tournament’s top scorer when he netted his tenth of the campaign in the third-place play-off, helping Indonesia defeat the Philippines 4-3.
