Costa Rica and Guatemala will compete in the 2009 Grand Prix de Futsal that will take place in Anapolis and Goiana, Brazil from 28 June – 5 July.
The fifth edition of the annual tournament will feature 16 countries in four groups of four for the opening round from 28-30 June. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout round beginning on 2 July, while also that day the third and fourth place squads from each group will compete in the consolation bracket.
The final day of competition is scheduled for 5 July, where you have eight matches from first-place to fifteenth place.
Costa Rica, who has not competed internationally since the 2008 CONCACAF Futsal Championship, was drawn into Group B and will face Iran, Romania and Uruguay. Meanwhile, the defending champion Guatemala is in Group C which also consists of Angola, Hungary and Paraguay.
The Czech Republic, Mozambique and Peru join the hosts, Brazil in Group A, while Argentina, Ecuador, Ukraine and Venezuela will compete in Group D to round out the tournament first round stage.
Costa Rica and Guatemala are making their first appearance in the Grand Prix de Futsal. The only other CONCACAF team to have competed in the event was Canada in 2007 and 2008.
