10 Teams join futsal in Hinigaran today

BY NIDA BUENAFE

Hinigaran town will play host today to 10 teams who will see action in the 1st Amateur Futsal Festival 2009 today at the town plaza.

Organized by Hinigaran United Football Club led by Henge Cuadra, the futsal competition drew participation from Barangays 1, 2, 4, Narawis, Nanunga, Tagda, Gargato, Magallon FC, Strikers United, and Isabela FC.

The event is supported by the local government of Hinigaran and the Negros Occidental Football Association.

Futsal is gaining grounds in the province and with the competition in Hinigaran, people will be more aware of this new variation in football, Henry Patiño of NOFA said.

The participation teams from Moises Padilla and Himamaylan is an indication that football in southern Negros is very much alive, he added.

Meanwhile, Patiño said that competition in SK Federation-sponsored 19-Under Football League Home-and-Away which kicked off the previous weekend will resume on June 27 in San Carlos City.

He said miscommunications on games’ resulted to San Carlos Football United missing its first two assignments against Bago City and Moises Padilla.

Despite the setback, San Carlos FC is raring to post its first win in the tournament when it faces frontrunner Pontevedra next week.

Members of the John Carmona-mentored San Carlos team have been exhibiting their advanced skills in age-group football. Recently, the squad figured prominently in the local scene by sending to the finals three of its teams in the 1st Executive Village Football Club 7-a-Side football festival held late last month in Talisay City.*NAB
