Daily San Diego Soccer NewsA.J. Yilmaz Has Small Size, Big SkillThursday, June 18, 2009Surf BU7 White mid A.J. Yilmaz powers through the opposition with his aggressive nature, blazing speed and good foot skills.
Yilmaz is typically the smallest kid on the grass -- or the hardwood, in the case of the SD Futsal League -- but he never gives up.
What makes Yilmaz so determined?
“Family and friends cheering on the sidelines, wanting to do my best, wanting to help my teammates and really wanting to win,” Yilmaz said.
Yilmaz takes the cake as a play-maker for Surf. He is competitive and wants his teammates to succeed. Basically, Yilmaz is in it to win it.
Futsal founder Mario Mrakovic coaches Yilmaz. He helps Yilmaz work on his footwork and shooting, both of which are necessary skills for Yilmaz to follow his dream of becoming a professional soccer player.
Additionally, Yilmaz's dad has helped develop his skills since he was 2 years old. Dad also coaches Yilmaz’s school soccer team at NDA.
Yilmaz keeps busy with soccer because he truly loves the game. He likes that soccer is non-stop action and features shooting, scoring and winning.
Yilmaz also loves Futsal because it is a small court and a fast pace.
”I think I have an advantage because I am fast,” Yilmaz said.
