Five-star Vinicius earns Murcia the Spanish crown

ElPozo Murcia FS regained the Spanish title this weekend after completing a comfortable play-off defeat of UEFA Futsal Cup winners Interviú Madrid.

Two victories
With both sides through to the final for the seventh year in succession, Murcia were hoping to improve on a record of winning just two of the previous six deciders, in 2006 and 2007. Already assured of a 2009/10 UEFA Futsal Cup place thanks to Interviú's April triumph in Ekaterinburg, Murcia travelled to Madrid for the first match of the three-game series, their first place in the regular season entitling them to home advantage in the other fixtures, and came away with a 3-2 triumph before clinching the title with a match to spare thanks to a 7-2 win.

Vinicius stars
Interviú led eight minutes into the first game through Daniel but Ciço equalised and on the half-hour Wilde and Raúl shot 2007/08 UEFA Futsal Cup runners-up ElPozo into a 3-1 lead, which proved enough despite Juanra pulling one back. In front of a capacity 6,500 crowd in Murcia, ElPozo struck first in the second match with a Wilde goal and although Betão equalised, Vinicius Elías scored on 17 and 18 minutes to put the home side in control at the break. Wide and Vinicius increased the lead and although Schumacher pulled one back, two more Vinicius goals ensured the title for Murcia and a superb personal showing.

Murcia 'motivated'
Vinicius told lnfs.es: "This year we reached the league final at a good moment in good spirit. We played with a lot of motivation because we had a tremendous pressure on us not having won a trphy and the added pressure of facing an Inter side that had won the three they had entered. We wanted to win and we did. The victory was due to the great work we all did in defence, we were successful in nullifying our opponents' strengths. This team has great quality, and demonstrated that." Both Interviú and Murcia will enter the 2009/10 UEFA Futsal Cup in the Elite round from 14 until 22 November, with the draw on 13 October.
